The Change

Chapter Nineteen

Bright and early the next morning, the five friends surrounded the Gubazah Monster's cage. He laughed at their eagerness. They all noticed that he look softer and gentler. Something magical was happening, and was exciting to witness it.

"Let me eat my breakfast before I talk to you," he said.

They gave him the berries they had picked. They found a warm, sunny spot in the grass and sat down to wait. While they were waiting Spirit appeared.

"Hello," she said. "Isn't this a fine morning! Something told me I should be here today. Why who do we have here in the cage?"

"Spirit," said the Gubazah Monster. "I am so glad to see you!"

"Ah, Gubazah. Yes, now I know why I had to come. It's time to take you home."

As Spirit flew up above the cage, the Gubazah Monser had changed. He was no longer a monster, but instead he was a beautiful deer.

The five friends held their breath as they saw the magic. Soem other forest animals passed by, including Grumpy the Gopher.

"What have you done? You have taken a monster and put a deer in the cage?" he shouted.

Chips laughed. "That is the Gubazah Monster. He has changed into a deer."

"Nonsense exclaimed a beaver. "Where have you put the monster!"

"I was the monster," Gubazah explained. "I am now the deer I once was thanks to the love and joy in these five friends of mine. They have taught me to remember happiness, to remember friendship, and to remember my dreams. My time as a monster had come to an end. It is time to return to my home."

All the animals were silenced by his word and his beauty. Spirit few to the cage. She landed on the lock and the door opened freely.

"Welcome back," she said.

Gubazah walked out of this cage. He bowed his head to the five friends and said thank you.

They all watched as he walked away. Suddenly Gubazah stopped and whispered something to Spirit. She flew back to Chips.

"Would you like a glimpse of the fountain? That's all you are ready for now. It's just for you too Chips and Charley because it is your mystery. The others have their own mysteries to follow."

"Yes," said Chips and Charley together.

They said a quick good-bye to their friends and followed Spirit and Gubazah.

Finally they would see the fountain and solve their mystery. It seemed too good to be true.
